EPIC DAY

EPIC Day History

In 2021, Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta encouraged Rotarians to work together to create a Rotary Day of Service. Two Rotary District Governors, Jeff Krause and Joanne Alfieri, accepted the challenge and led clubs in Connecticut and Massachusetts to their first combined Day of Service in 2022. It has tripled in size each year since.

At the same time, Rotary Clubs in Colorado were building their Woohoomanity bike ride into a big fundraiser. For 2024, the organizers pivoted to a Day of Service that also included fundraising, similar to a cancer walk. When the Colorado clubs learned of the Rotary Day of Service in the East, they joined forces. 2024 was a much bigger success.

There are 1.4 million Rotarians in 45,000 clubs around the world. Our goal is to help all of them to easily organize EPIC projects for their communities, and to raise millions of dollars in the process to help fund even more service year-round. At the current rate of expansion, it would take about 10 years. We aim to beat that.

EPIC Organizing Committee

The EPIC Day of Service is a grassroots effort. No single club or district runs it. Instead, it’s organized by Rotarians who voluntarily represent the participating districts and clubs. The majority are District Governors. The Committee is consensus-driven and open to anyone interested. Two Co-Chairs, Robert Friend in Connecticut and Pat McGuckin in Colorado, help the Committee get things done.
