

Restoration of Smeltertown Cemetery
Brining respect and Dignity those who community members of Smeltertown. Smeltertown is a part of El Paso History- a residential community housing the workers of the ASARCO smelter and their families. Restoration of Smeltertown Cemetery began with Willie Cordero and his brother who went to visit the graves of family members and noticed the grounds needed serious attention. The weeds were overgrown and gravestones were vandalized. So the work began to beautify the cemetery. Willie and Carlos go every Saturday to direct volunteers in the different needs.
Volunteers will participate in painting crosses, putting up crosses, moving rocks, cutting weeds and picking up trash. Willie and Carlos will the equipment. Volunteers need to bring their own gloves. Dress for the outdoor weather.
The cemetery is located 28 San Marcos, El Paso 79922, (near Executive and Pasiano). Turn into the neighborhood under the black bridge and follow the dirt road up.
