Plant Box Construction

Have you or did you have  a family member or friend at Castleview Care Centre in Castlegar?  Is someone you love perhaps going there in the future? 

Castlegar Sunrise Rotary Club has identified a need for more elevated plant boxes for the residents to enjoy.   On May 17th, 2025, as our Epic Day of Service Project, our Club will construct several large new elevated plant boxes and fill them with soil.  We will also supply flowers and a few cherry tomato plants, so the residents will have something to plant and watch grow, and potentially enjoy eating some of their very own  tomatoes!  Gardening has long been proven to enhance motor skills and cognitive abilities in seniors.  By having several more plant boxes at Castleview Care Centre, the many residents will have more opportunity to take part in gardening as well as having the anticipation and joy of seeing more flowers bloom and more tomatoes ripen.   Those who are unable to take part, along with staff, family and friends,  will also enjoy colorful displays for many years to come.
